The two following articles, by Strait and coworkers, and Daegling and coworkers, constitute the inauguration of a new category of submission to the AJPA—Viewpoints. Viewpoints are similar to Perspectives, presenting opinions on and reviews of current issues in the field, but differ in that they are paired contributions. The two articles below address recent controversies surrounding the reconstruction of diet and dietary adaptations in early hominins using different methodologies, including dental microwear and bone structural analyses. In order to better structure the debate and promote the most effective dialog on this issue, the two groups of authors were asked to address four specific questions:
