Vision Based On-line Inspection of Manufactured Parts

Abstract The presentation summarizes the actual work of the ESPRIT 1 Project P2091 VIMP (Vision based on-line Inspection of Manufactured Parts). The goal of the VIMP project is to develop a low-cost, automated, vision-based inspection system for the control of 100% of the manufactured parts within a FMS environment. The focused pre-industrial prototype is aimed to combine the conventional mechanical inspection technology with the vision based inspection approach. The accuracy of the system will be in the order of 10 to 100 μm. The result of the project will be a prototype showing this new concept of inspection integrated into the manufacturing process.
