A Plastic Optical Fiber Accelerometer Suitable for Marine Applications

In this manuscript, an optical plastic fiber based accelerometer is described, robust and sensitive enough to be used in marine applications, either in ships propeller shaft vibration monitoring, in costal piers or waterfronts. In either case, the output signal can be used for a structural health monitoring scheme.
