A study on speed control of safe merging using game theory

Collision detection for traffic is still an open research topic, and the developing of cooperative vehicle infrastructure system can help us deal with traffic safety more effectively. This paper presents an algorithm to predict collisions among vehicles, where the information about the movement of vehicles is exchanged via cooperative vehicle infrastructure system. Not giving warning signals like others, a suggested velocity called desired speed will be provided to solve the problem of efficiency on the basis of safety. The game theory will be introduced in this paper, and the process of decelerating or accelerating before vehicle merging will be analyzed to give an appropriate suggested velocity. Experiments show that this algorithm presents a good result that the suggested velocity helps drivers pass through intersection safely and quickly.
