Contribution discrimination of auxetic cantilever for increased piezoelectric output in vibration energy harvesting

Piezoelectric vibration energy harvester (PVEH) with auxetic layer has the advantage of increased voltage output and decreased resonant frequency. To give contribution discrimination of auxetic cantilever for increased piezoelectric output in vibration energy harvesting, this paper summarizes three influencing factors including neutral layer shift, negative Poisson's ratio, and damping loss factor. Three kinds of PVEH with different substrate structures which including solid plate, pores plate, and auxetic plate were designed and fabricated. Their piezoelectric voltage and power curves are simulated in FEA and tested in the experiment. Three contributing factors were identified and calculated for increased piezoelectric output in vibration energy harvesting by auxetic cantilever including neutral layer shift, negative Poisson's ratio, and damping loss factor. This research gives a constructive reference for the design of high output and low frequency PVEH.
