A comprehensive scheme for cooling of large generators using hydrogen cooling systems

The paper presents all-inclusive study of recent techniques between year 2008-2012 dedicated for the cooling of large size electric generators. A `Six Stage Redundant Structure' (S2RS) - hydrogen cooling system (HCS) clubbed with highly reliable and efficient process automation system is presented for HCS of integrated gasification combined cycle power plants. The work includes a brief discussion between the proposed system by the authors' and the existing systems in terms of system reliability. The algorithm for system reliability of the S2RS - HCS is developed on MATLAB platform. The effectiveness of real-time featured HCS is validated by computer simulation. The entire process automation system is designed and simulated on FT-View32 Works by Rockwell Automation. The S2RS - HCS meets the specifications guided by the standards: IEC 61131-3 and IEEE 1413-2010.
