Introduction: A New Look at the Form of Government of the European Union and the Eurozone

This chapter, which introduces the book on "What Form of Government for the EU and the Eurozone?" (Hart Publishing, 2015), overviews the challenges that the Euro-crisis, and other recent developments posed for the form of governance of the EU and the Eurozone. The chapter then, presents possible lines of developments in the form of government of the EU and the Eurozone, discussing options of parliamentarization and presidentialization. After surveying the content of the various chapter, the essay concludes by emphasizing the need to reform the EU founding treaties if steps are to be taken in strengthening the form of government of the EU and the Eurozone.
