Exploring PPStream's Ability of Supporting Peer's Mobility

Few works are concerned with PPStream(PPS) application system, though it is so popularly used like PPLive(PPL) and it does have very different buffer structure which has been discussed in our previous work [4]. Since the mobile related devices develop quickly, more and more applications are required to keep good quality in mobile environment. In this paper, we simulate a mobile peer in PPS system in the way of changing its IP address and we simulate its moving speed using IP changing frequency. We first figure out the buffer map structure and filling features using data harvested from client application because the private protocol of PPS has changed since [4]. Then, based on the measurement we analyzed the mobile peer’s playback quality, neighbor variation and unusable time as IP changes to explore PPS ability of supporting client mobility. We find that the mobile peer performs well in neighborhood keeping and content requesting and obtaining in the simulated experimental condition.
