Parallelization of low bit rate video coding algorithm and its real time implementation

The low bit rate video coding algorithm H.263 is computational intensive and needs a powerful hardware for its implementation. A parallel method is described. It is shown how the data dependencies lead to a partitioning of the algorithm into seven tasks. A fast search algorithm for reduction of computational complexity in motion vector estimation is presented. Scheduling strategies are discussed based on TI TMS320C80 multimedia multiprocessor and experimental results are given.
