Remediation Techniques by Use of Ground Improvement

Ground improvement technologies have high potential applying to the geoenvironmental problems. In this paper, deep mixing method (DMM) and soil mixing wall methods used for geo-environmental works are described. A major advantage of these two methods is their ability to treat the soft clay soils at great depths without excavation, shoring, or dewatering. Thus, the methods have a relatively low cost and allow the least exposure of contaminants. Based on the results of in-situ applications, they can be applied to remedy sites contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and also to construct a vertical barrier wall for containment.
