Achromatic White-light Self-imaging Phenomenon: An Approach Using the Wigner Distribution Function

Abstract The propagation of polychromatic spatially coherent light through an optical system, developed for achromatizing Fresnel diffraction patterns, is discussed using the Wigner distribution function. This approach is applied for obtaining achromatic self-images. The residual chromatic aberration is analysed, and some experimental results are shown.
