A micromechanical model for plastic behavior of fibrous composites

Abstract A simple micromechanical model is developed to described the elastic-plastic behavior of fibrous composites. In the model, the fiber is assumed to be linearly elastic, and the matrix elastic-plastic following the J 2 -flow rule. The micromechanical model is used to calculate stress-strain curves for off-axis boron/aluminum composites. These curves are used in turn to model a macromechanical orthotropic plasticity model.
