A self-healing scheme for ATM networks based on virtual path

A highly reliable network which can restore itself from failures is an important concept for the future high capacity broadband network. In this paper we propose a self-healing scheme for ATM Networks based on virtual path, taking advantages of backup restoration method and dynamic restoration algorithm in order to meet different requirements of service classes of survivability under minimum cost. The performance evaluation via simulations shows that the proposed algorithm can restore VPs quickly by using preassigned backup VP's and improves the restoration time in case of multifailure. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm uses the network resources very efficiently.
