Preparation and thermal properties of paraffin/expanded perlite composite as form-stable phase change material

Abstract In this paper, the form-stable phase change materials (PCMs) were prepared by absorbing paraffin into expanded perlite method. Graphite as additive was added into the form-stable PCMs to improve thermal conductivity. The properties of the form-stable PCMs were characterized by SEM and TGA analyses. The results showed that paraffin was well dispersed into the porous network of expanded perlite by the capillary and surface tension forces. The form-stable PCMs had a good thermal stability during their working temperature range. The thermal conductivity of the form-stable PCMs was increased as much as 192% by graphite with mass fraction of 5%.
