Methods and results of design synthesis of antenna arrays with flat-topped sector partial patterns

The problem of shaping sector flat-topped partial (element) patterns in antenna arrays is considered, which is of practical importance for limited field-of-view antenna systems and some other applications. A number of new technical solutions of the problem are proposed on the basis of the methods using feedthrough multiport networks, dual-mode slot-coupled waveguides, waveguide-dielectric elements, modulated corrugated structures, and networks of optical type for forming the necessary overlapped subarrays. Theoretical and experimental results characterizing the capabilities of the methods listed are presented and discussed.
