METHOD FOR FLEXURAL VIBRATION DAMPING OF ROLLING STOCK CARBODY

A new method for enhancing the riding comfort by reducing vertical flexural vibration of a car body is studied in this paper. In order to dissipate energy of flexural vibration while minimizing the weight to be added, viscoelastic layer and constraint layer are pasted partially on the outside sheathing of the car body. Riding comfort over the vertical track irregularities is analyzed theoretically by assuming that the car body is a partially multilayered beam. As a result of the analysis and the field tests on Shinkansen test car, it is concluded that this method can be a useful measure for enhancing the riding comfort of a lightweight car body.
