Evolutionary spectral analysis using Malvar wavelet transform

In this paper we propose a procedure, based on the Malvar wavelet transform, to estimate the evolutionary spectra of non-stationary signals. Comparing the Malvar and the Wold-Cramer signal representations we obtain the kernel for the evolutionary spectrum. Our procedure takes advantage of the local characteristics of the Malvar bases and uses a minimum entropy criteria to find an optimal representation of the signal. The spectral estimation can be adapted to the signal if information about the instantaneous frequency of the signal components is available. By adapting the Malvar bases using instantaneous frequency estimates very good signal and spectral representations are achieved. Estimation of instantaneous frequencies is implemented with a segmentation technique.
