The use of the Hickman catheter in the management of patients with leukaemia and other malignancies

The use of the Hickman right atrial catheter in 25 patients with leukaemia and other malignancies is reported, and it is concluded that with careful selection of patients, the benefits of this semi‐permanent catheter outweigh the risks of infection. The catheter may be useful in the intensive care of children or adults with non‐malignant conditions.
