Soil quality assessment using fuzzy modeling

Maintaining soil productivity is essential if agriculture production systems are to be sustainable, thus soil quality is an essential issue. However, there is a paucity of tools for measurement for the purpose of understanding changes in soil quality. Here the possibility of using fuzzy modeling theory as a means to address the problem of soil quality assessment is considered. For soil quality assessment, two general types of fuzzy soil quality indicators potentially could be defined. The theoretical consideration of this process is illustrated with an example. Results indicate that the fuzzy multi-attributive approach could be effectively utilized as a tool leading to better understanding soil quality.
