Analysis and FEM Simulation of Temperature Field in Wet Surface Grinding

This study proposes a parabolic distribution for heat flux entering the grinding zone of a workpiece. Based on such a heat flux distribution, the study presents a finite element model for simulating the temperature field in the wet surface grinding. The model takes into account the nonlinear nature of the workpiece material properties with temperature and assumes a circular arc surface for the heat source. The study then carries out three-dimensional finite element simulation to investigate the transient temperature field induced by the thermal loading to the workpiece. The simulation demonstrates that more convincing results are obtained using the parabolic than the triangular heat-flux distribution.
