Compared to highway bridges, railway bridges applied bid dead load and live load are designed by plastic design to reduce design seismic forces in piers. Although the cross sectional area of reinforcement confinement in hollow section RC pier is smaller than solid section, reinforcement confinement cross section is overestimated. So, seismic performance evaluation experiment is performed to evaluate the economics of hollow pier in railway bridges. Bending dominated section, 0.5 hollow section ratio, is applied in experiment based on solid section in Honam high speed railway. Seismic performance of the experimental results, required seismic performance ductility is obtained in specimens applied full ductility and limited ductility design.
