Political Science Research on Teledemocracy

Whatever consequences flow from the November 1992 elections, H. Ross Perot’s independent campaign for President of the United States has already lent an unprecedented measure of legitimacy to discussions of teledemocracy. Perot’s advancement of interactive TV as a means for discovering and marshaling public opinion on national issues generated innovative uses of the media by other candidates and renewed debate over the wisdom of electronic plebiscites as well as other forms of electronic political participation. The press approached Perot’s proposals with skepticism, but journalists have nevertheless devoted considerable attention to Perot’s
