A GEOACOUSTIC SURVEY OF THE BRAZOS RIVER PART III: REVERBERATION STUDIES,

Abstract : The report presents the results of some high frequency (85 kHz) bottom backscattering measurements made by Defense Research Laboratory (DRL) in the Brazos River near Houston, Texas, (Brazoria). The reverberation data are interpreted as a scattering strength per unit area of bottom insonification and fall in the range of scattering strength reported by others for fine mud. A method for automatic computation of boundary insonification is presented. First and second order statistical analyses of the reverberation data are also presented. The results are interpreted with a view toward their utilization in signal processing techniques. (Author)
