Experiments on Acoustic Resonance in Heat Exchanger Tube Bundles

Abstract A series of experiments have been made on aeroacoustic tones produced by flow over tubes in a duct. The sound is characterized by the onset of a loud and persistent acoustic resonance. The acoustic resonance occurs at the frequency of the acoustic modes. The magnitude and extent of the resonance are functions of tube pattern and tube pitch. The sound levels increase in proportion to Mach number, dynamic head and pressure drop.
