Authoring Instructional Strategies in Intelligent Educational Systems: A Model Based on Conceptual Graphs

Adaptive educational systems are knowledge-based systems (KBS) that maintain a user model in order to store users' characteristics and use these to provide dynamically generated content and adaptive navigation support. The aim is to make intelligent systems, more personalized, by adapting to the user's goals or to the user's previous knowledge's. Intelligent educational systems can be developed by a generic knowledge-based system development methodology and an authoring system is required. This paper proposes an authoring system for instructional strategies used for different learner cognitive styles. The model of authoring module, named TSEL (Teaching Strategies for Each Learner) is based upon conceptual graphs. For implementation, we use the CoGITaNT environment (Conceptual Graphs Integrated Tools allowing Nested Typed graphs), a library of C++ classes (open sources, developed by LIRMM CNRS, France) allowing the development of applications based on the CG knowledge representation scheme.
