Research and revision on the scale effect of the wake field based on the method of SDM

In this article,different scales of KCS ships are studied with the CFD software STAR-CCM+ inorder to analyze the influence of the scale effect of the ship wake field. To correct the error caused by thescale effect, the concept of Smart Dummy Model(SDM) is taken as reference. Based on the module ofFramework imbedded in the CFD code Friendship, various degree of contraction deformation on after-bod-ies is created for better analysis results. It is seen that the method of SDM is applicable in solving the prob-lem of scale effect of the wake field, and the model-scale wake field successfully meets the target wakefield distribution of the full-scale one through the deformation of stern.
