Compact, side-pumped 25 dBm Er/Yb co-doped double cladding fibre amplifier

A compact 1.5 /spl mu/m Er/Yb-doped double cladding fibre amplifier, diode side-pumped through an embedded v-groove, is demonstrated. A small signal gain of 47 dB, an output power of 312 mW and, separately, a noise figure of 4.5 dB are measured.
