A decomposition approach to flow control in tandem production systems

Proposes a decomposition method to production rate control for a tandem production system in which machines are subject to failures and repairs. The basic idea of the author's method is to decompose the system into single-machine systems. The interaction between the machines is characterized by shortage/starvation costs.
