Model-based multi-parametric programming strategies towards the integration of design, control and operational optimization

Abstract Operational uncertainty is a critical aspect associated with a process plant’s overall performance. In this work we formulate a mixed integer dynamic design optimization problem while taking into consideration the optimal control and control-aware scheduling decisions as a function of the design, via multi-parametric programming, following our PAROC framework. The approach is applied on a residential scale cogeneration unit for the production of usable heat and electrical power.
