Proofs of the volume averaging theorems for multiphase flow

Abstract Formal rigorous proofs are presented for the volume averaging theorems of multiphase flow. The proofs are the first that are conceptually elementary and yet mathematically rigorous. The proofs rely on distribution theory and regularizations of characteristic functions.
