Characteristics of a planar inverted-F antenna on a rectangular conducting body

Characteristics of a planar inverted-F antenna attached to a rectangular conducting body are analyzed. The rectangular conducting body is modeled by wire grids and the moment method is applied so that the impedance characteristics and the radiation patterns are obtained. They are compared with the measured data. The element values are found for the equivalent circuit using a parallel resonance circuit seen from the feedpoint impedance and the antenna Q is found. The relationship between the relative bandwidth and the variation of the equivalent circuit parameter vs. the dimensions of the rectangular conducting body is investigated. Variations of the current distributions on the body and the radiation pattern are studied.
