Examines the effects of a spoken-dialogue interface in a dual-task situation. One of the situations that is well-suited for the use of a spoken-dialogue interface is one which includes dual (or multiple) tasks, i.e. when two or more tasks are being carried out at the same time. In order to develop a spoken-dialogue system, it is important to consider such a situation and the effects of the spoken-dialogue interface in it. It has been said that the merit of a spoken-dialogue interface is that it doesn't overburden the user's manual and visual modalities. Therefore, it is expected that this interface should be effective in a dual-task situation. We have carried out experiments to prove this hypothesis. As a result of these experiments, it became clear that a spoken-dialogue interface was effective in a dual-task situation, and also that considering the situation is important for the design and evaluation of the interface.
