On-chip 60 GHz transformers for next generation of wireless communication in a 0.13μ BiCMOS technology

In this paper, modeling and design of the on-chip transformer for next generation of wireless communication is presented. Four different layout topologies are investigated, the study is applied to the IHP 0.13 micron BiCMOS process technology and for the 60 GHz frequency work. The comparison between four different layout topologies shows high performance for the stacked transformer octagon shape, the Q-factor is about 15, minimum insertion loss is about 1.02 dB, and the coupling coefficient factor is about 9.3.
