Optimal distribution power flow including shunt capacitor allocation based on voltage deviation and power loss minimization

This paper presents a new optimization technique called Ant-lion optimization (ALO) in order to determine the optimal sitting and size of shunt capacitors in radial distribution systems (RDS). The objective functions are suggested to minimize the power loss and enhance the voltage profile individually or simultaneously. Standard IEEE 33-bus and 69-bus test system are used to validate the effectiveness and superiority of the new optimization algorithm compared with different well-known techniques. The obtained results demonstrate that both of power loss and voltage deviation can be minimized significantly after demining the optimal allocation of shunt capacitor banks using ALO algorithm.
