Academic MANs and PIONIER – Polish Road to e-Infrastructure for e-Science

The chapter present the history of e-infrastructure for researchers in Poland. It includes the history of Metropolitan Area Networks and of the National Research and Education Network (NREN) development and examples of use of the NREN in different research disciplines. It describes the integrated service platforms concept and cases of implementation of five services in the Polish NREN.
