THE RURAL MAILBOX HAZARD

As many as 100 people die each year as a result of a car hitting a mailbox. Among the major problems with mailboxes are fixing them to posts that do not break off when struck, placing them in such a way that they go through a car windshield when the supporting post is struck, building multiple mailboxes too solidly or in such a way that a supporting beam may come through the windshield of a car, and decorating mailboxes or marking them in such a way as to confuse drivers.
