Gartnet: a Genetic Algorithm for Routing in Telecommunications Networks

We present a routing optimization model for telephone networks based on a genetic algorithm. Optimization criteria applicable to the South African telephone network structure are deened. From extensive simulations we select from the basic genetic algorithm operators those best suited for the routing problem. Promising results have been obtained on small and large networks. In these simulations GARTNet has proven itself to be a good candidate solution to the routing optimization problem.
