A digital video system for multi-program broadcasting

We developed an efficient digital video broadcasting system suitable for multi-program applications. This system uses a joint bit-rate approach to significantly increase the number of compressed video streams transmitted in one channel. Compared to CBR implementations, our approach improves the bandwidth allocation by an average of 112%. As a result, for the same picture quality, our system can free a large number of transponders, which in turn can be used to carry real-time broadcasting.
