Robust power system stabilizer design using LMI technique

Traditional H_∞ control theory has many limits in the application to power system. Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) technique provides a new approach for the synthesis of multi-objective controller. Based on the LMI for mixed H_2/H_∞ design under pole region constraints, a multi-objective H_∞ power system stabilizer (PSS) for damped low-frequency oscillation is developed. The eigen value analysis and simulation show that the controller can provide enough dampings in many operating conditions.
