Practical applications of smart delivery systems

Abstract In this chapter, we discuss the problem of underground mine evacuation as an instance of a rich vehicle routing problem (RVRP). We present a literature review regarding the issues and algorithms for mine escape routing. Later we revise selected papers concerning the practical applications of the RVRPs. As the main contribution, we propose the mixed-integer linear programming formulation of the mine evacuation scenario. Based on the proposed problem formulation, we find the optimal escape routes for a simulated emergency situation in a mine. Finally, we outline the possible future improvements related to the formulation of the discussed problem.
