The Design and Testing of a Cryogenic Pre-amplifier for the Rockwell HAWAII and HAWAII-II Detector Arrays

In order to reduce electronic noise to a minimum, it is desirable to include gain early in the electronic chain. A cryogenic pre-amplification stage situated on the fanout board provides this as well as reducing external electronic complexity. This paper presents the results of cryogenic tests on pre-amplifier components to be used on HAWAII and HAWAII-II fanout boards. The OPA×134 and AD851× are both good candidates for low noise, high speed (1 μs/pixel) applications.
