Numerical analysis models of curtain airbags, based on the uniform pressure assumption, are usually composed of one chamber. Deployed state of a curtain airbag can be well simulated with one chamber. But there are some important things that can't be evaluated by this one chamber model. For example, the gas distribution in the early stage of bag deployment and diffusion of gas when CAB is exposed to external forces can't be known. The diffusing characteristic of gas in the early stage is essential to predict the CAB deploying motions. For this, a multi chamber model is introduced. The gas distribution results of multi chamber and a model of MADYMO gas flow module are compared. In addition to that, a pendulum test result is used to know the gas diffusing characteristics when CAB is exposed to external forces. The results from multi chamber model, one chamber model and real tests are compared for this.
