Green supply chain modelling: literature review

The literature on green supply chains is growing in importance since the production and transportation of goods make a significant contribution to greenhouse emissions worldwide. This work enumerates literature within the domain of green supply chain (GSC) modelling, categorises themes and modelling approaches, analyses modelling attributes, and presents shortcomings and opportunities of the state-of-the-art's literature on GSC modelling. In addition, the work evaluates research questions such as the extent of the role of optimisation in GSC modelling, the role of supply chain network design (SCND), the utilisation of mathematical programming, and the inclusion of attributes such life cycle assessment (LCA) in the literature. The work finds strengths in the use of optimisation tools to optimise supply chain activities and finds opportunities in more comprehensive work that integrate the attributes examined in the paper.
