Ringing Reduction in Image Restoration Using Cyclic Boundary

Ringing artifacts are a problem that cannot be ignored in blind image restoration. They seriously degrade the quality of the restored image, and make it difficult to recover the image in the subsequent processing. In this paper, a method to reduce ringing for image restoration based on the Richardson-Lucy algorithm and cyclic boundaries is proposed. First, an image-adaptive median filter is used to filter the image. The boundaries of the image are then extended. Finally, the Richardson-Lucy algorithm is used to restore the image. The proposed method is compared with the Neumann boundary condition and antireflective boundary extension methods. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better ringing reduction than the other two algorithms.
