Multiple sclerosis relapse mimicking a transient ischemic attack.

According to its definition, an attack of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) should last at least 24 h. While sudden onsets have been described, sudden onsets followed by abrupt offsets are very unusual. Paroxysmal symptoms in MS such as trigeminal neuralgia, dysarthria, ataxia and tonic spasms have been reported in brainstem or spinal cord lesions. We herewith report the case of a 24 year-old patient suffering from relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) presenting an acute lesion of the internal capsule which according to its clinical presentation was compatible with a “typical” transient ischemic attack (TIA).
