Circuit Allocation with Strengthened Medium Core in Spatially-Multiplexed Elastic Optical Networks

Elastic Optical Networks (EON) emerge as a solution to supply the current growing bandwidth requirement. With the application of multi-core fibers (MCF) in EON links, it has increased the availability of spectral resources. An EON with MCF enables Space-Division Multiplexing (SDM), increasing the capacity of attending circuit requests. However, the use of SDM results in some problems of interference between circuits in different cores, especially the crosstalk interference. In this paper, the Allocation with Strengthened Medium Core (ASMC) algorithm is proposed as a solution to the Routing, Modulation, Spectrum, and Core Allocation (RMSCA) problem, aiming to reduce the impact caused by crosstalk in the circuit establishment process. A performance analysis is made comparing our algorithm to recent RMSCA solutions found in the literature. The results evince that our proposal can improve the efficiency of the network by at least 43.64%.
