Leaky axisymmetric modes in infinite clad rods. II

When a guided ultrasonic interface wave travels along the interface between two materials, acoustic energy is radiated from each point on the interface, producing a displacement field at the outer surface of the material. We show how this unique feature of guided interface waves may be used for metal–metal and metal–ceramic interface studies. The propagation parameters of these waves were measured and several of these modes were used to obtain direct acoustic images of the interfaces between two solids.
