INFLUENCE OF INCLUDING PERIODONTAL LIGAMENT WHEN MODELING TEETH RESTORED WITH POST

Restoration of devitalized teeth is a common procedure that uses an intraradicular post to retain the restoration material. Biomechanical models are becoming a useful tool to estimate the performance of these restorations with different configurations. The effect of considering the periodontal ligament (PDL) in these models has been studied scarcely [Akkayan, 2004; Newman, 2003]. In this sense, the authors recently published the results of an in vitro study, dealing with the influence of PDL [PerezGonzalez, 2011a]. The aim of this work was to confirm these results through the simulation of a restored tooth.
