A fast design method for biorthogonal modulated filter banks

A method is proposed to solve the unconstrained optimization problem related to the design of perfect re construction biorthogonal modulated filter banks. The basic idea is to take advantage of some attractive properties of the parametrization of the underlying lifting schemebased structure. This approach allows the design of prototypes with thousands of coefficients. Nearly optimal results are presented for two different optimization criteria.
