Some aspects of the Iosipescu shear test

Abstract The influence of the notch angle employed in an Iosipescu test is considered. It is shown that (a) choosing a notch angle smaller than 102.6 degrees induces a singular stress state, and (b) offsetting the notch always induces a stress singularity.
